Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
This version is significantly out of date
The current version of LRA can be found in this thread- Spoiler:
- Hi.
Line Rider: Advanced has come a long way since I started it all those months ago. I've decided that since I'm beginning to solidify features and become more sure of my builds, it's time to enter beta.
Scary.
This means a new numbering system for versions, longer patch cycles, and less "new" features, and more permanent ones. We're going through this stage with the goal of having a version of LRA that lasts a few months, which will be bugfixed and become the release candidate for leaving beta.Patreon
If you have an overwhelming amount of money, I urge you to support this project on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/linerider_advanced
This is a solo project and I'm passionate about it, but I'm also unemployed albeit looking for work. This project takes a lot of my time so any money at all helps. I also accept job recommendations ;-;Patch Notes
- 0.3:
- Complete code base rework. There may be some weird bugs that weren't there before. Please report them.
- Songs are now played back using .ogg. The game will automatically convert your file format to .ogg for you, and will list it in the song window as needing conversion.
If you don't want to wait for the song to be converted again, save the track with the generated .ogg file as it's sync - Added a frame cap (It's like 20 minutes, don't worry about it)
- Added multilining feature, right click on a red line with line adjust tool to see it's properties. Probably bugs here
- You can right click on the area of a line with the line adjust tool to see it's properties.
- Now supports video export. Supports both 720p and 1080p.
- Fixed font spacing on some unix systems.
- Some hidden changes involving frame skipping while using line tool.
- Smooth camera setting. It's not conun's, but I took my own attempt. Input appreciated.
- Flag timer position changed.
- Song slows and speeds up with playback rate
- Onion skinning feature.
- Complete code base rework. There may be some weird bugs that weren't there before. Please report them.
- 0.2:
- Added SOL export.
- Fixed a major bug to do with inverse lines and the line adjust tool.
- Added SOL export.
- 0.1:
- Many many major and minor bugfixes, too many to count and probably even more new bugs
- Rendering engine rework! We use a new svg for the rider!
- Faster track rendering, I know on faster computers this is by a large margin (13 fps large projects to consistent 40+fps)
- Unhandled exceptions now let you copy their text
- New Preferences window! Open it with Escape or CTRL+P
- Preferences window now shows hotkeys under "About" tab
- Feature: Iteration stepping
For advanced quirkers. Shift left/right during playback - Right arrow key for frame skipping now works without playing the track.
- Night mode setting.
- Tooltips to reflect more hotkeys
- So much code refactoring, code base has been cleaned up substantially.
- Fixed audio crash
- Added autosave every 5 minutes.
- UI minor update
- And more!
- 0.1.1 hotfix line adjustment issue0.
- 0.1.2 Fixed some issues involving the pencil tool, including one that didnt allow inverting.
- 0.1.2 Cleaned up some rendering code.
- 0.1.2 Fixed a line adjust tool bug with scenery lines
- 0.1.2 Maybe fixed an issue with antivirus' falsely detecting it.
- Many many major and minor bugfixes, too many to count and probably even more new bugs

Re: Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
Lets hope this version of the game doesnt get stuck in beta for a decade
I was well anticipating this update and I'm pretty hype to try some of this new stuff
EDIT: bug when crtl moving a connected line and then undoing it
step 1 (original set up):
step 2 (ctrl moving the line):
step 3: (ztrl+z):
DOUBLEEDIT: this actually seems to be happening a lot, and the lines dont even have to be connected for them to combine like that
also, im not sure if this is stated anywhere, but is there a toggle for stopping it moving two lines that are connected? its a little annoying when scening.

There isn't a toggle yet. I didnt know it was necessary.Chuggers wrote:Lets hope this version of the game doesnt get stuck in beta for a decade

I can't replicate this bug but I may have seen it before. I can't figure out where it is coming from.
Something I can't figure out is why your knobs are double their intended size.

Re: Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
I think it'd be more fluid for menus if you made the song menu into a tab on preferences
also, the line moving point things are a little hard to see on .5x lines with non-night mode or white bg enabled

Re: Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
Glad to see someone has pledged money to you on patreon. I strongly encourage everyone with a stable income and a decent amount of money to pledge to JC - I know how much every dollar means being on patreon myself, and for the moment LRA development is pretty irreplaceable.
I won't be able to check this out right away due to my own busyness and the track jam and stuff but I will take a look as soon as I can.

I am in shock at how little lag there is, here
Also on the first frame, does it render and display all 7 iterations and then not on any other frame?

Thanks.mmtunligit wrote:shift does not flip lines when drawing with pencil
This is a result of using actual SVG rendering, it's not just you. It's actually a -huge- pain to return to constant width sled, and I think it makes the game look more modern.Helios Pavonine wrote:Is it just me or is Bosh's sled nearly invisible when zoomed out enough?

Re: Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
suggestion: dragging a track file or music file into the game window will put it into the track or song folder
also is it possible to make it so i dont have to restart the game for it to show a track file that i just added in, like the music does

shifted lines show the gravity well area on the wrong side
also, not sure if its just me, but the auto updating line stuff is a lot slower in the beta than in the alpha
edit: i think the lag stems from moving the lines in general

Does anyone have the audio sync working in mono under linux? I'm not getting any sound when I hit play (it works under Windows).

Oh shit a linux user.
My first guess is you're notu using .wav? Mp3 requires licensing and windows has the license and most linux distros don't. Also idk how to support linux licensing of mp3

mp3's run fine on vlc, and just about anywhere else really. Unless most linux software ignores licensing requirements or something? I'll try a .wav and report back.JealousCloud wrote:Oh shit a linux user.

EDIT: Okay, .wav works, that's odd. I guess I'll just convert my song to .wav.

Re: Line Rider: Advanced Beta 0.3 [May 27] RELEASE CANDIDATE
Yeah the audio library I'm using only supports .mp3 on windows and I'm not sure how to support it on linux copies that do have the mp3 codec (I'm pretty sure Mint can install with codecs). The creators of VLC might have actually gotten the license,FlagCapper wrote:mp3's run fine on vlc, and just about anywhere else really.
